-> URGENT Notes About Revision 2.1+ <-
THIS APPLIES IF YOU ARE UPDATING FROM REVISION 2.0
Before you run version 2.1 of Code Thief it is PERTINENT that you
DELETE your old MODEM.DAT file (if present) and start anew. The reason
for this is that the modem configuration has a new paramater in it.
This is the ability to define your own string to send out to the modem.
If you have an advanced modem (IE USR 2400) then set this to ATX6. If
it is blank then no string will be sent out to the modem as a user
defined string. After you delete MODEM.DAT run the program and select
Modem Paramaters/Defaults from the main menu and alter them if they
don't suit you. If the old MODEM.DAT file is retained then the results
will be unpredictable. I bet I'll have to explain to some dipwit why
it didn't work when they refused to read a file called "URGENT.MSG".
Geesh.
-> Revision 2.2 Introduction <-
You can ignore the note above to delete MODEM.DAT only if you are
updating from revision 2.1 to 2.2. If you have 2.0 and are updating to
2.2 then READ IT NOW. VERY IMPORTANT.
Sorry for making you download Code Thief **Again**, but there were a
few bugs in the display during hacking that might have come out for
you. That is why I am making this worth 0 file points on the Private
Connection. Also, PARAMATER HACKING has been added. Consult the
beginning of the documentation for extended information on this. This
allows you to invoke Code Thief to hack multiple targets/multiple
extenders from the DOS command line.
-> Revision 2.1 Introduction <-
There are other things in revision 2.1 also. When you set timed
hacking to start at a later time you can now abort it's waiting by
hitting ESCape. You used to have to reboot the whole system. Maybe I
wasn't thinking earlier, maybe I was too lazy. Oh, speaking of timed
hacking. My logic was off when I was coding it and subsequently if it
was 11:00 pm (23:00) and you wanted to hack until 1:00 am it wouldn't
work and would abort right away. This has been fixed. Timed hacking
is totally fixed now and 100% reliable. Sorry but when you're
programming and the music is loud it's hard to concentrate. Also,
there was a QUIRK in revision 2.0 that when a code template was over 14
characters (max is 16) it would chop off any characters over 14. Codes
can be up to 14 digits but the code template can be 16 digits (to
facilitate commas (modem 2 second pauses) if necessary). Someone also
told me that their modem sent results of ":" and ";". They wanted to
be able to enter strings as well as numbers for result codes. Now you
can. Sounds like a wierd modem, but this has been facilitated. Also,
the double window frames were getting to me so I made them single
window frames. I thought the old window frames just lacked something.
I feel better now. This will most likely be the FINAL release of Code
Thief unless something prompts me to add something so that it won't
become obsolete. Im pretty satisfied with its quality at the current
time.
-> Origional Revision 2.0 Introduction <-
Welcome...
Welcome to Code Thief revision 2.0. As you will notice this is a
MAJOR release of the Code Thief program. READ the documentation.
Print it out and actually follow it as you navigate through the menus.
This will GREATLY enhance your knowledge as to the capabilities of the
program and how it can be made to do anything you wish, hacking-wise.
You Are Supplied With...
With the program you are supplied EXTENDER.DAT and MTARG.DAT.
EXTENDER.DAT is a non-ascii file, so don't jump on loading it into your
word processor, because it will only screw things up. This file
contains a few extender configurations courtesy of the Code Thief
Project, a subsidiary of the Phortune 500 Board Of Directors.
MTARG.DAT is, though, an ASCII format file and CAN be loaded into your
favorite word processor for editing. This is done in case you download
a listing of numbers off of a packet switched network
(TELENET/TYMNET/Etc) in ASCII format and wish to use your text editor
to make a MTARG.DAT file out of it. The maximum number of targets that
can be in a MTARG.DAT file is 500. This is plenty for any purpose.
Remember: Be sure to read THIEF21.DOC completely before asking
questions - it's probably in there.
